Ozu by Otazu

A range with boundless personality. Six wines celebrating the diversity of the Navarrese terroir under the gaze of one of the great masters of Spanish contemporary art.

The Ozu by Otazu labels are born from the work of Manolo Valdés, who reinterprets the figure of Ariadna as a symbol of the thread running between art and wine, between the land and those who work it.

Under the Navarra Designation of Origin, these wines express the varietal richness of the vineyard: fresh whites, elegant rosés and characterful reds. An accessible collection that does not renounce excellence.

The artist

Manolo Valdés

Valencia, 1942

Spanish painter, printmaker and sculptor, Manolo Valdés is one of the contemporary artists with the greatest international reach. Trained at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia, he co-founded the Equipo Crónica in 1964.

After the group dissolved in 1981, he developed his own style characterised by the reinterpretation of icons of art history —Velázquez, Matisse, Picasso— with simplified forms and a marked presence of texture and material. His monumental sculptures have presided over the Place Vendôme in Paris, the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore and the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.

Winner of the National Prize for Plastic Arts and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, Valdés has exhibited in more than sixty solo shows in galleries in New York, London, Paris, Milan and Tokyo.

The myth

Ariadna and the god of wine

Ariadna, daughter of King Minos, held the thread that guided Theseus through the labyrinth. Abandoned on Naxos, she was found by Dionysus —the god of wine— who fell in love with her. From that union was born Oenopion, who brought to Earth the art of winemaking.

Manolo Valdés reinterprets this myth on every label: Ariadna as a bridge between the human world and the world of wine, between the land of Navarra and those who enjoy it.
