The Artist Series #6 edition was conceived by artist Tony Orrico (Chicago, 1979), who performed «Penwald: 2:8 circles: 8 gestures» in February 2018 in our underground barrel room. His work consists of a performative drawing exercise in which the body becomes a measuring tool and movement becomes geometry. Orrico executes repetitive choreographic gestures with charcoal, constrained by the space traced by his outstretched arms, creating concentric circles that oscillate between control and the spontaneous exploration of physical balance. The density of the overlapping lines functions as a visual record of his mental and physical endurance during prolonged sessions, transforming time and effort into graphic matter. Just as the physical process through which the performance was executed, the label carries the imprint of that repetitive gesture. What can be seen in this visual translation of the artwork is that each stroke on the label is understood as the result of a bodily action, where form is not something anticipated or designed, but the product of a series of sustained movements.
