Altar is a wine that defies time. Manual care and selective harvesting in our single-plot vineyard of the Otazu vineyard, certified under the Pago Protected Designation of Origin (D.O.P. Pago), followed by full barrel fermentation in new French oak barrels.
Altar is not just a wine: it is a testimony to the art of caring for the planet and of deep respect for the natural cycle of the vine. Its label, more than an artistic signature, is a living work renewed with every vintage, an act of recognition towards the land and towards those who work it with their hands.
It is born from three plots of the Pago de Otazu —Kant, Heidegger and Hegel—, planted with Cabernet Sauvignon on soils where clay, silt and sand balance each other: they retain just enough water, drain with agility and force the root to work in depth. From that effort is born a wine of firm tannin, contained black fruit and a slow maturation, oriented towards ageing rather than immediate impact.

The artist
Héctor Zamora
Mexico City, 1974
Héctor Zamora is one of the most relevant Latin American artists of his generation. His work explores the tensions between the individual and collective structures —architectural, social, natural— through installations, performances and actions that intervene in public space and the environment.
He has exhibited at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the São Paulo Biennial, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Venice Biennale. His work always starts from the concrete —matter, place, the body— to speak of what is common and fragile to us all.

Altar is a representation of the past, present and future: a connection with the land, manual work and artisanal labour.
Héctor Zamora compares the work of clay with our manual winemaking processes and marks the work with Otazu earth as a seal of its origins. It is the reflection of the interaction and relationship between the vine grower and the land he cultivates.
